About Apartment in Paris

A Parisian Gem: Reviving Tradition with Modern Flair

In the heart of Paris’ bustling 10th district, an apartment on the Right Bank dazzles with its blend of historical charm and modern design. Original hardwood floors and aged walls set a captivating scene, enhanced by a row of five windows that bathe the 150-square-meter (1,615-square-feet) space in light.

Innovative Spatial Design

A dark wooden ledge, positioned 45 cm (17.7 inches) above the floor, elegantly connects the various spaces within the apartment, offering a panoramic view. This design element, acting as a visual guide, extends into a dramatic, dark entrance. Here, black woodwork frames each doorway, creating a striking contrast that divides the apartment’s areas distinctively.

Blending the Old with the New

Diego, the visionary behind this transformation, masterfully merges traditional Parisian elegance—marked by chevron flooring, marble fireplaces, and antique mirrors—with a modern, masculine aesthetic. The dining room, featuring a mix of flea market chairs and an Art Deco table, contrasts beautifully against the eighteenth-century faïence fireplace. A suspended graphic light and a “witch” mirror accentuate the room’s historical walls.

Transitioning seamlessly from past to present, the kitchen unites with the dining area. A black concrete island, sleek and functional, appears to hover over the vintage wood floors. The blend of original mirrors and crown moulding with contemporary touches of copper chairs and a retro coffee table warms the space.

A Cozy Retreat with a Modern Twist

The bedroom illustrates Diego’s knack for combining clean lines and masculine elements with the apartment’s inherent allure. A black console, doubling as a headboard against the marble hearth, complements the dark skirting that climbs the walls. An antique mirror presides over the room, echoing the apartment’s rich history.

Renovation efforts transformed one bedroom into a dressing room and another into a bathroom adorned with white marble and mercury mirrors, sourced from an antique store. These changes, while modern, honor the apartment’s original beauty.

Preserving Beauty, Embracing Modernity

The architect’s interventions have seamlessly introduced modern conveniences without overshadowing the apartment’s natural elegance. This Parisian abode now stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of practicality and poetic design, bridging the gap between eras with grace and innovation.
