About Nevern Square Apartment

Transforming a late 19th-century Edwardian terrace apartment into a contemporary haven, our project on Nevern Square breathes new life into a once fragmented space. Through meticulous design and innovative solutions, we’ve tailored this 742 sq ft (69 sqm) residence, with its mere five windows, into an oasis for a young family, blending comfort with cutting-edge features.

Reviving Edwardian Charm

Our design concept reimagines the traditional British Edwardian two-room layout, introducing a spacious front room and a cozy rear one. This setup not only uncovers the original room proportions but also highlights the two grand front windows. The transformation revolves around the harmonious intersection of two contrasting ‘L’ shapes: the towering White ‘L’, reaching a full height of 12.47 ft (3.80m), integrates seamlessly designed storage solutions, while the multifunctional Black ‘L’, standing at 7.38 ft (2.25m) tall, hosts an array of custom furniture, including a kitchen, spirits bar, and entertainment unit.

A Unique Spatial Experience

The novel intersection of these ‘L’ shapes births a distinctive glazed internal opening. This feature extends the visual depth of both the living and sleeping areas, offering uninterrupted views and a sense of continuity throughout the space. Functioning as an internal window, it floods the apartment with natural light all day, significantly reducing energy costs. Furthermore, it grants the illusion of dual-aspect views, overlooking the verdant Nevern Square gardens, enhancing the living experience.

Comprehensive Renovation

The renovation, spanning 21 weeks, was no small feat. It included reinforcing the structure to bear the weight of 17 tons from the four stories above, repositioning the entrance door, and integrating a concealed fire curtain to maintain the open layout’s integrity. Each modification was carefully planned to ensure the apartment’s historical essence was preserved while infusing it with modern functionality and style.

This transformation not only pays homage to the building’s Edwardian roots but also sets a new standard for urban living. Through thoughtful design and innovative engineering, the Nevern Square Apartment stands as a testament to the possibility of modern family living within London’s historic fabric.
