The Contemporary Alpine Abode: A Modern Take on Tradition
Nestled in Laion municipality, this two-story residence stands as the gateway to Val Gardena in South Tyrol. While drawing inspiration from classic alpine homes, the design boasts a modern twist. It seamlessly blends a masoned ground floor, wooden upper level, and gabled roof with reduced design language and cutting-edge materials.
Architectural Intricacies: Crafting Transitions
Designers meticulously carved entrances and terraces from the near-rectangular structure. On the upper floor, vertical wooden slats adorn these “cut outs.” These weather-resistant spaces, combined with a distinct gabled roof, offer a compact appearance. However, when the sunlight casts varied shadows through recesses and perforations, the structure comes alive with dynamic plasticity.
Material Palette: Bridging Past and Present
Materials play a pivotal role in this house’s aesthetic. Bright plaster graces the roof’s fascia and ground floor walls. In contrast, the recessed walls on the upper floor showcase rich, dark larch wood. Terraces gleam with light natural stone slabs or polished screed, enhancing the overall design.
Interior Layout: A Harmonious Living Experience
Breaking it down, the house features a functional basement with a garage, cellar, and utility spaces. The ground floor accommodates a master bedroom and an expansive living area. Lastly, the top floor becomes a sanctuary for work and play, housing studies and children’s rooms.
