The Boerum Hill Townhouse, designed by BAAO, showcases deep colors and sculptural textures throughout its interior. Richly veined marble elements accentuate the bold design choices made to maximize spaces for a social family who values entertaining and accommodating guests.
Inside the entryway, walls in deep green complement a green and pink checkerboard floor, a modern twist on the traditional black and white pattern. A custom asymmetrical curved mirror highlights the door’s arch, creating a cohesive look.
The parlor features a curved sofa and armchair framing two nested marble tables atop a curvy rug. A custom walnut sideboard anchors the space’s corner, alongside a gold-painted relief by Andrew Zimmerman and Mike Hansel’s Cloud Support over the original marble mantel.
A fluted plaster arch with a bar area framed by vintage French smoked glass sconces leads to the kitchen and rear steel window wall. Calacatta vagli viola marble tops custom cabinets and an island in mushroom tones. A curved pantry cabinet flanks a pale oak dining table and upholstered chairs, while hand-blown glass forms hover overhead. Adjacent, a powder room boasts creamy plaster walls, a backlit asymmetrical mirror, and a custom Irish Connemara marble sink.
After ascending the rebuilt staircase, a light-filled playroom emerges, and a tambour-lined transition conceals a marble-lined bath with a stone sink and ledge, connecting to the media room and garden.
Painted a deep aubergine, the media room features a marbled bar area. A sectional sofa and chartreuse velvet-covered barrel chair frame a custom walnut coffee table. A vintage Italian cocoon resin lamp and curved perimeter cove lighting brighten the space.
The primary suite is plastered in lavender gray, paired with stained oak elements. Linen wall sconces illuminate custom wall-hung side tables, and a still life is framed above the headboard. An arched closet leads to the primary bath adorned in the same lavender gray. Green onyx and rosa aurora macchia vecchia highlight the large shower, while a freestanding tub sits by a steel casement window overlooking the garden. Onyx also covers the stained oak vanity. Forest green-painted walls and custom LED sconces light an oak desk in the home office.
On the top floor, a sculpted skylit hall concludes the spiraling stairwell. One bedroom features arched wallpaper with acid green accents, and the guest bedroom includes a green velvet bed flanked by custom travertine side tables. Clay pendants echo the wool rug’s tones. In the guest bath, spectacular marble wraps the walls and floor, while rosa aurora stone tile lines the skylit tub and shower. The laundry room is accented with cement tile in the anarch pattern.
Outside, both the deck and garden are finished with travertine in a checkerboard pattern, reflecting the attention to detail and continuity in the design of the Boerum Hill Townhouse.
