Ático Curvo Offers Scenic Views Over Valencia’s Old Turia Riverbed

This Destudio interior design in Valencia, Spain, centers around views over the old Turia riverbed. Ático Curvo features a glass facade, living room, kitchen and bedrooms that share the view, and further blur indoors and outdoors with a terrace replicating interior functions. A sculptural staircase uncovers construction details. This design also features a sloping roof, natural wood ceiling, soft-toned mortar walls, double-height ceiling, solarium, outdoor bath, open kitchen, black curved iron surfaces and natural wood.

Views of Turia Riverbed Define Ático Curvo

Destudio designed Ático Curvo in 2024 in Valencia, Spain, with circular architecture and views over the Turia riverbed being primary considerations.

They undertook a drastic shell removal to ensure that the scenery would be visible from almost every corner of the property – moving the day zone, kitchen, and master bedroom closer to the façade – and demolished an overbuilt mezzanine that obstructed the living area.

Ático Curvo’s Layout Blurs Interior and Exterior

To further focus the living room and kitchen on those views, the terrace was given different uses so that any function indoors was replicated outdoors.

There is not only an outdoor living and dining area but also a solarium, a bath, and an additional open kitchen that doubles the surface area through a nearly hidden, glass-enclosed room.

Rustic Aesthetic Complements Natural Backdrop

The sloping ceiling is covered with natural wood, evoking the cozy atmosphere of a cabin, while the walls are covered with soft-toned mortar for a calm enjoyment of the views.

To encourage guests to linger and enjoy, the Harmony and Harmony Studio sofas, designed by Toto Ferrara and Silvio Longhin for Athmosfera, were selected.

A Bonaldo coffee table brings a bolder personality to a more neutral living room. A Fabric dining table from the brand’s Piercarlo con Amore collection allows for a generous eating surface without sacrificing floor space in the rectangular corner where the furniture is placed.

Ático Curvo’s Details Enhance Leisure Environment

Ático Curvo also features a spiral staircase that connects the main floor entrance hall with the less-used upper floor, which contains a study, reading room and guest bedroom.

Destudio designed the staircase, almost like a sculpture, as both a functional element and a decorative one. Black curved iron is used on the outer surfaces, while natural wood is used for the interior steps.

Downstairs, a Vento sideboard by Alivar combines Burnished Nickel and Thermo oak, with skewed lines that are balanced and pleasing.

Blurring indoors and out, the terrace design mirrors the interior functions with Harmony outdoor sofas for lounging, the Quilt M.2500 table and Wild seat cushions designed by Ethimo for shared dining and multiple sunbeds.

Destudio Applies Design Principles in New Ways

For the designers, less is more. That philosophy continues with the direction of Ático Curvo and creating spaces that build upon the users’ experiences while never disrupting the surroundings.

To ensure that the designers are heading in that direction, care was taken in studying every element of this apartment, and all the ways in which it is optimized.

The natural lighting that floods through the skylights plays off the hues of Diego Fortunato’s lamps with simple, yet elegant, round shapes, and adds play to the double-height ceiling.

Antonio Lupi’s mirrors in the bathroom offer that same ease; their curved glass through the vertical composition and exudes imagination.

Lastly, though neither Lig & Domus N took centre stage in the project, both rugs give presence to the table. In different design variations, each exploration has subtle details that balance and bring harmony to this hotel-style setting.
