Casa CG presents cork cladding

Casa CG in Creixell, Spain, designed by Alventosa Morell Arquitectes, blends into its surroundings through an innovative choice of materials. The house, clad in cork, not only blends in with its surroundings, but also ensures thermal efficiency. This project, which was chosen by a couple who wanted to move from a larger house, aims to provide comfort and functionality within a modest budget.

Alventosa Morell Arquitectes designed a compact, rectangular floor plan for Casa CG and optimized the space with an asymmetrical roof. This design choice made it possible to create a multifunctional space with a mezzanine, adding square meters at a lower cost. On the first floor, the kitchen, living room and dining room form an open space with windows on three sides, increasing natural light and connection to the outdoors.

Well thought-out interior details

Inside, the thin wooden partitions serve two purposes: to soften the concrete structure and maximize usable space. The intimate scale of the bedroom and bathroom under the mezzanine contrasts with the openness of the main living spaces. This careful spatial organization allows for both privacy and community.

The cork cladding not only makes the CG House blend with the tones of the surrounding pine forest, it also increases the thermal inertia of the building. This natural insulation helps maintain a stable interior temperature, reducing the need for artificial heating or cooling. The choice of environmentally friendly materials is in line with the client’s desire to have a house that is both sustainable and harmonious with its surroundings.

Casa CG is an example of a careful approach to design, offering a smaller, more efficient housing solution without compromising on aesthetics or functionality.
