Exterior view of the Longwood ADU
Located in downtown Los Angeles, the Longwood ADU is an example of contemporary living. Created by Patrick TIGHE Architecture in 2020, this add-on housing unit incorporates a progressive perspective on urban density. The building sits on a unique 15,000-square-foot lot where a branch of the LA River flows, offering a tranquil counterpoint to the hustle and bustle of the city.

The exterior is striking in its modern design. An oversized roof elegantly shields the terrace and pool from the intense LA sun. Supported by a solid steel porch, slender cylindrical columns, strategically placed in a V-shape, enhance the architectural beauty and reduce visual interference in the courtyard. The striking interplay of materials, including cedar planks, underscores the dedication to natural splendor and sustainability.

Harmonious integration of interior and exterior
Upon entering UAD Longwood, an open and spacious floor plan welcomes guests. The main living space cleverly combines living room, kitchen and dining room, fostering an inviting atmosphere. The high ceiling, clad with cedar planks, enhances the airy feel, drawing attention to the outdoors.

The sliding glass wall effortlessly connects indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing sunlight to enter the house. This design choice allows for a gentle connection with the serene outdoor landscape, making each encounter feel vast and close to nature.
