Boutique Resort in Pine Forest

Anadu Pine Villa is nestled in a secluded valley near Huzhou, China, about two hours from Shanghai. Surrounded by a lush pine forest and shielded by a bamboo-covered mountain, this boutique resort comprises three elegantly designed guest suites. Each suite offers panoramic views, while a refined wine and cigar bar complements the experience. Aligned with Anadu’s philosophy of “Find yourself in nature,” the resort’s design showcases the valley’s unique beauty and harmonizes with the natural landscape, providing guests with an unparalleled retreat.

Thoughtful Building Orientation

The resort’s structures are positioned along the valley’s contours, each oriented to capture distinct views, embracing the gentle valley breeze as guests journey to tranquility. At the entrance, a bamboo-textured concrete and charred black wood “L”-shaped gate merges harmoniously with the landscape, enveloping the valley’s greenery on one side and welcoming visitors on the other.

Repurposed Building with Historical Echoes

An abandoned old house once occupied the site where the wine house now stands. To honor the site’s history, the new building echoes the old structure’s gabled roof, redesigned into a four-sloped form that creates a harmonious, tranquil scale from every angle. Divided into two sections, the building includes a cigar lounge on the left, enclosed and seamlessly connected to the roof, and a reception area on the right, where the roof appears to float above the mass, allowing natural light to filter in.

Exquisite Interior Design

Inside, a minimalist, warm material palette features custom wooden furniture and light wood ceiling panels following the roof’s form. Sloping towards the windows, black flat ceilings extend outdoors, creating a shaded space that connects the building to a small plaza overlooking the pine forest. In pleasant weather, glass doors can be fully opened to integrate the plaza into the indoor space, offering an uninterrupted view while the northeast dining area faces a quieter hillside, providing a more private atmosphere.

Immersive Guest Experience

A curved bamboo-textured wall guides guests from the wine house to the guest area, where the firm ground transitions to gravel paths, evoking a vacation feeling. At the path’s end, a small plaza enhances the sense of seclusion, providing a moment of pause before entering the guest area. The three minimalist standalone structures sit quietly in the valley, surrounded by the forest, inviting guests to explore what lies beyond.

Upon entering the guest rooms, the view dramatically opens up, with two concrete slabs facing the unobstructed valley, providing a 270-degree panoramic experience. Embraced by nature on three sides, each room frames its unique view, offering a seamless flow of the interior spaces.

Sustainable Material Usage

The buildings are cast from exposed concrete, with integrated beams and embedded piping ensuring no visible ceiling beams or lighting fixtures, unifying the space. The floor slab floats above the valley, respecting the terrain while appearing to hover above it. Between the concrete slabs, only the serene pine valley is visible.

Through glass doors, each room opens onto a private backyard in the pine forest, with eaves extending into a shaded area that blends indoor and outdoor spaces. Every guest room features a floating outdoor deck, further connecting guests to the valley. The landscape design softens the boundaries between the estate and its surroundings, integrating native valley plants to effortlessly blend into the environment.

Subtle lighting, resembling fireflies, dots the pathways and grounds, enhancing the serene, secluded atmosphere. Local craftsmanship is celebrated, with much of the woodwork crafted from reclaimed wood sourced from local markets, and 80 percent of the pieces handcrafted by skilled artisans. The repurposed wood is meticulously shaped to harmonize with the scale and spirit of its surroundings, preserving and continuing local craftsmanship.
