Casa Tribu Remodels Bogotá Modernist Home with Contemporary Touch

Casa Tribu by Arquitectura Plus is a remodeled residence in Bogotá, Colombia. Designed in 2023, this 263-square-metre house retains its original modernist details while incorporating contemporary updates. The renovation focused on maintaining the home’s basic lines, introducing landscaping and natural light, and creating an interior design proposal using the owners’ furniture.

Casa Tribu’s Original Design

Casa Tribu saw the modernisation of a 263-square-metre home in Bogotá. The house is part of a residential complex of 12 units designed by architects Camacho and Guerrero in 1977, who were prominent figures of the modern movement in Colombia.

The renovation aimed to maintain the basic lines of the original design within a contemporary proposal while meeting the client’s needs.

With the intent to revitalise the family home and tailor the design to the clients, Arquitectura Plus used each element in the house to tell a story of empathy.

The house programme comprises a master bedroom with a dressing room and bathroom, two bedrooms, a guest bathroom, a living-dining room, a social bathroom, an office, a laundry area, and patios.

Landscaping and Natural Light Additions

Arquitectura Plus’s main design ideas were to incorporate landscaping into the interiors of the house and prioritise natural lighting regardless of how each space is used.

“Allowing the space to come to life and transform over time,” the design incorporates nature into the interiors which reflects how the design is meant to adapt over time.

The design also generates an interior design proposal from the furniture elements owned by the owners, so that each of these continued to tell its particular story but as part of a unified concept.

Casa Tribu’s main challenges were creating a sense of spaciousness and clarity despite the introverted nature of the house and unifying the original design with contemporary design.

By achieving a feeling of harmony and cohesion within the house’s interior, the dialogue between preexisting elements from over forty years ago and contemporary additions was created.

Additionally, despite being completed on time and at budget over the course of eight months, Casa Tribu was “conceived as a living laboratory that must respond and adapt to the needs that arise over time.”
