Casa MM By Benjamin Goñi Arquitectos
Casa MM is a house located on the northern shore of a lake in southern Chile. Designed by architect Benjamin Goñi in 2023, the residence accords to a slope and encompasses native trees, ultimately providing sweeping views of volcanoes, the lake and the vegetation. The project places half of the house on the land and the other half on stilts, with the exterior portion covered entirely in larch shingles.

Experiencing Casa MM: A Natural Marvel
The design challenge for this endeavor was considerable. With a gradient approaching 45 degrees, the architectural solution required an inventive approach. One segment of the residence is securely embedded in the earth, while the other delicately perches on stilts. This configuration not only honors the pre-existing trees but also amplifies the sweeping views.

Flawless Cohesion with the Surroundings
The façade of Casa MM is wrapped in reclaimed larch shingles. Renowned for their minimal upkeep requirements, these woods suit the region’s recurrent precipitation. The structure displays a simplistic yet practical shape, created to address potential water-related issues. The roof atop the lower sleeping quarters serves as a sheltered terrace, encouraging outdoor experiences.

Upon entering the residence, an expansive communal area unfolds. The entryway, referred to locally as a chiflonera, opens into a warm kitchen and dining arrangement. Generously proportioned windows dissolve the barrier between indoor and outdoor spaces, presenting awe-inspiring panoramas. Elegant local pine wall coverings envelop the inside, fostering a snug yet refined ambiance.

Interior Areas Customized for Family Interactions
The design of Casa MM segments operational spaces across two parallel structures. The upper structure houses the principal bedroom and a tastefully curated lounge, while children’s quarters are situated in the lower structure. Ample common spaces connect both areas, nurturing familial connections.

The kitchen serves as the heart of the house, featuring a stunning white marble counter and top-of-the-line appliances. Its vast layout facilitates both food preparation and leisurely dining, promoting family togetherness.

As one moves toward the deck, the internal space reveals itself, flowing into the external environment. The covered terrace here encourages outdoor dining amidst the wilderness. The design considers not only visual appeal but also comfort, providing a tranquil setting for unwinding.

In conclusion, Casa MM is a striking illustration of contemporary architecture blended with the natural world. Its meticulous planning, creative solutions, and material selections highlight its bond with the spectacular Chilean environment. This dwelling fundamentally reimagines the interplay between architecture and nature.
