The Bagel House by Byben
The Bagel House is a full house renovation in the Glassel Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. Designed by Byben in 2022, this project keeps the overall programmatic organization of the original house, while also updating the design to a contemporary concept. The original driveway will become the yard, which will be accessed through the double doors off the living room.
A Revamped Look for The Bagel House
The adventure commences on the outside, where the home exudes a majestic yet welcoming presence. The meticulously planned landscaping enhances the architecture, unmasking the newly created yard from what used to be the driveway. Upon entering through the front porch, you are met with a clear sightline that directs you straight through the home, highlighting its purposeful configuration.
Directed by Light and Space
Upon stepping inside, the living space unfolds magnificently. Vaulted ceilings—an ingenious repurposing of attic space—infuse an expansive feel, accentuating the natural progression between rooms. The combination of contemporary decor and earthy textures creates an ambiance of warmth and coziness.
The living area, with its snug seating setup, transitions fluidly into the dining area and kitchen. Eye-catching skylights flood the space with gentle, diffused illumination that glides across the custom cabinetry and countertops. The kitchen, a seamless blend of practicality and elegance, showcases organic shapes and inviting wood tones, providing a backdrop for culinary innovation.
The dining table, highlighted by a standout light fixture, beckons family gatherings and informal celebrations. Above, light baffles are cleverly nestled into the vaulted ceilings, offering brightness without being overly harsh.
Cozy Havens: Bedrooms and Baths
As we journey further into The Bagel House, the design continues its dedication to comfort and tranquility. The primary bedroom acts as a peaceful sanctuary, styled with intentional furniture choices and enveloped in natural sunlight.
The bathrooms demonstrate a meticulous harmony of modern style and practical design. Tactile tiles and a calming color scheme foster an inviting environment. Each bathroom boasts spacious layouts; one features a chic glass shower artfully framed by a stunning arch, echoing the home’s overarching design themes.
Throughout The Bagel House, the presence of rounded shapes and softened corners reflects a considerate narrative of space, enriching the bond between the interior and its outdoor surroundings. Byben masterfully designed a dwelling that respects its past while confidently stepping into the future.
