About Peace
Converging Volumes For Outdoor Enthusiasts
Peace is a rustic lodge located on a steep, wooded lot near the summit of Le Maelström Mountain in Lac-Beauport. The starting and ending point for several hiking trails located directly on the vast site, it is the ideal refuge for outdoor enthusiasts.
Metal Structure Adapted To The Natural Slope
The project is structured around the convergence of two volumes with complementary functions. The first, a metal structure covered with Eastern Townships tiles, rises three levels to house the interior spaces, as well as a terrace with a rooftop spa. Its profile adapts to the site’s natural slope, taking the form of a parallelogram that, thanks to generous parapets, protects the spa from the wind and prying eyes.
Openwork Cedar Cladding Forms Panoramic Observatory
The second volume, a large wooden terrace clad in openwork cedar, emerges from the ground and extends southeastward, like an observatory, offering panoramic views of the mountain landscape and the river in the distance. This terrace not only provides access to the various levels of the metal structure, but also provides shade for the interior spaces, while offering numerous gathering, exercise, and contemplation areas for visitors.
Intimate Ground Floor Bedrooms And Exterior Terraces
Upon arrival, visitors first pass beneath the wooden structure to enter the rustic lodge or access the terrace and forest trails. On the ground floor, they discover the more intimate spaces of the bedrooms, separated from each other by the bathroom. The openwork cedar cladding extends on the ceiling, creating a visual continuity between the interior and exterior.
Ladder And Elevated Entrance Provide Sloped Access
Upstairs, they find the living spaces, accessible from the interior via a ladder and from the exterior via the terrace. Enveloping the metal structure, the wooden structure reveals, on one side, a walkway offering splendid, unobstructed views, and on the other, the terraces overlooking the dense forest.
