About Wexler Gallery

Wexler Gallery: An Innovative Art Hub in Fishtown

The Wexler Gallery, conceived by DIGSAU Architects, offers a remarkable transformation in Philadelphia’s lively Fishtown neighborhood. This 2023 endeavor revitalizes a former pretzel production facility, presenting a fusion of industrial allure and modern artistic expression.

As you approach the gallery doors, the building’s exterior cannot go unnoticed. The raw brick facade and factory windows signal a historical narrative, inviting onlookers to step inside. The renovated construction preserves its original industrial essence, harmoniously integrating with Fishtown’s creative atmosphere.

A Spacious and Well-Lit Interior

Upon entering through the gallery’s doors, guests are greeted by a bright, expansive space. The vaulted high ceiling accommodates impressive installations, while adjustable wall sections provide versatile exhibition configurations. The gallery’s arrangement adjusts to fit an array of displays, from singular pieces to lively events.

On the ground level, the central staircase, designed in partnership with the Challenge Program, captures the gaze. This nonprofit initiative involves high schoolers in essential construction skill-building activities. This partnership emphasizes the gallery’s dedication to the community and educational outreach.

As visitors explore further into the space, the gallery reveals itself. The polished concrete flooring enhances the industrial style, with artworks presented against sharp white walls. Each work of art gleams in this thoughtfully curated setting, encouraging reflection.

Immersion Beyond Visual Art

Ascending to the upper level, the weathered-iron balcony links office areas with the exhibitions below. This design choice promotes a sense of community, enabling employees to feel connected with the gallery’s creative atmosphere.

The second level also hosts a designated office section. Abundant natural light pours into the open workspace, stimulating productivity and sparking creativity. Here, calendar alignments and collaborative efforts transpire amidst an artistic backdrop.

Tucked away from public view, a spacious art storage room is cleverly shielded. Accessible via a rolling barn door, it guarantees that artwork remains both safeguarded and easily retrievable.

The Wexler Gallery stands as a symbol of deliberate design and community partnership. It functions as a spirited platform for artists and a social hub for art lovers alike. Nestled in the heart of Fishtown, this gallery not only displays art but fosters connections, marking it as a vital addition to Philadelphia’s rich cultural tapestry.
