The AV Residence by Minida Designs
The AV Residence is a house located in Lagos, Nigeria, designed by Minida Designs in 2022. The client desired an aesthetic combining modern cabin looks with local materials. The interior reimagines spaces and focuses on local and natural materials that reference serenity and peace throughout the property, from primary bedroom designed for luxury and relaxation to functional spaces for home entertainment, including a recording studio and fully fitted walk-in closet.

AV Residence Designed For Client’s Needs And Lifestyle
‘AV Residence’ features the full renovation of a 5-bedroom house in Lagos, Nigeria, for one of our clients. Our aim was to create a space that exuded “serenity and peace”, which was reflected in many of our design choices. Our team took great care in understanding the client’s needs and lifestyle, and we made sure to cater to their preferences and tastes. To achieve this, we converted three of the five bedrooms into functional spaces for the client – which included a recording studio, home cinema, bar, gym, and fully fitted walk-in closet.
Materials Selected For Luxury And Relaxation
In addition to the functional spaces, we also dedicated a lot of time to the primary bedroom. Our goal was to create a comfortable and peaceful environment, which extended to the primary bathroom as well. We carefully selected materials and finishes that would evoke a sense of luxury and relaxation.
Modern Cabin Aesthetic Influences Design Choices
The client’s desire for a modern cabin aesthetic in the living room strongly influenced our design choices, from the floor selection to the style of furniture and the stair balustrade. To achieve this, we opted for stone-like tiles and incorporated wooden elements, such as the wooden beams that enhance the space’s rustic feel. We used local raffia materials to create texture on the balustrade.
Functional And Aesthetic Challenges Presented With Fireplace
Of equal importance to the client was the inclusion of a fireplace, which posed a challenge in terms of both aesthetics and functionality, given the climate constraints of a Lagos home. However, we were able to come up with a creative solution that involved the use of real logs of wood, lending the electrical fireplace a greater sense of authenticity and warmth.
