Screen House: An Engagement with the Environment
Located in Bengaluru, India, Screen House represents a remarkable endeavor by Kamat & Rozario Architecture, crafted in 2023. This dwelling unifies internal and external areas, spotlighting daylight and airflow throughout the structure. Situated on a lot measuring 40 feet in width and 75 feet in depth, the residence interacts with its surroundings as one navigates through its length.
Upon entry through a quaint garden, one immediately senses the home’s inviting warmth and liveliness. This modest green space serves as the initial pause in the architectural journey. Upon stepping inside, guests are welcomed into an expansive living and dining space. The dining area stands as the core of the design, bordered by an enchanting internal courtyard and a delightful urban garden. These features foster the entry of natural illumination and cool breezes, enriching the home’s ambiance.
Effortless Integration of Indoor and Outdoor Spaces
The internal courtyard is designed to enhance the main staircase, culminating in a crown that diffuses dappled light throughout the home. Meanwhile, a cleverly situated balcony links the urban garden to a tranquil bedroom at the rear. The building’s structure gradually elevates from the street side, fostering a feeling of soft ascent.
A standout feature is the daughter’s bedroom, which opens to a generous terrace with views of the street. Conversely, another bedroom offers a perspective of the entrance garden. A quirky wooden operable screen acts as a whimsical substitute for standard curtains, sparking curiosity and forming partitions without leading to closeness.
Celebrating Heritage Through Architecture
The design pays homage to the lady of the house’s Punjabi lineage with triangular designs that evoke phulkari, the exquisite folk embroidery she proudly adorns. Each room has been meticulously curated to convey warmth and individuality, incorporating rich wooden finishes and distinct textiles.
Equipped with modern conveniences, the kitchen boasts warm wooden cabinetry and plentiful natural light, making it an inviting space for culinary endeavors. The bedrooms extend the motif of elegance and comfort, embellished with carefully chosen furnishings and textiles.
In summary, Screen House exists as more than mere shelter; it symbolizes health, culture, and adaptive design. Through the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, Kamat & Rozario Architecture have assembled a home that authentically resonates with the spirit.
