A Historic Building Transformation
In the heart of Orvieto stands the new boutique hotel Palazzo Petrvs, born from a restoration project by architect Giuliano Andrea Dell’Uva of a building constructed in 1475 for the wealthy notary Petrus Facienus and long abandoned. Here, Secco Sistemi painted galvanized steel windows and doors offer performance in line with the comfort and well-being requirements of a high-end accommodation facility.
Inspiration from the Duomo
The inspiration is just a few meters away, in the facade of the Duomo and more generally in the dense urban fabric, and can be found throughout the project, starting with the outdoor spaces, the garden, designed around a fountain, as a natural evolution of an urban space.
From the garden level, a stone staircase leads to the main floor, characterized by details in black basalt and travertine, marbles that define the aesthetics of the cathedral.
A Long And Careful Restoration
A long and careful restoration has brought to light the Renaissance ceilings frescoed with 15th-century figures hidden by layers of paint. The desire of the architect and client, Raffaele Tysserand, was to revive the connection between the local area and local craftsmanship that had made the heritage and the palace great throughout history, using traditional, locally sourced materials even for the creation of complex artifacts.
Like the two-tone terracotta floors with imperfect surfaces and the natural terracotta mosaic chosen for outdoor spaces, or the large rough stone sinks in the bathrooms. Ancient kilns and local craftsmen have worked with great skill to restore an image faithful to the original without sacrificing the freshness given by the decoration of the past, with explicit reference to the aristocratic past of the structure, which makes every room welcoming.
A Small But Welcoming Entrance Courtyard
From the small but welcoming entrance courtyard, with its characteristic terracotta sofas, the rooms of the structure are distributed. In addition to the nine rooms, furnished with style and contemporary design pieces, there is a suite in the ancient tower and a restaurant located in the adjacent deconsecrated church.
Galleries They Echo The Original Iron-Framed Windows
The Secco Sistemi painted galvanized steel windows and doors for Palazzo Petrvs fit perfectly into the restoration project, dialoguing with history thanks to the type of profiles, materials, and finishes. Secco Sistemi’s OS2 75 windows and doors in painted galvanized steel update the windows of Palazzo Petrvs, echoing the original iron-framed windows and offering design flexibility that allows for the completion of windows, French windows, and fixed windows of different shapes and types.
All are characterized by slim profiles that leave ample space for the glass surface and natural light, both for the openings facing the courtyard and for the windows of the rooms, and even more so for the large openings of the suite in the tower. In all cases, the quality of the profiles has made it possible to achieve thermal and acoustic insulation values in line with the client’s requirements, ensuring privacy and relaxation for hotel guests. From an aesthetic point of view, the dark colors of the painted galvanized steel fit perfectly into the color scheme of the project, interacting with the other architectural elements of the rooms.
