Apartment in Kyiv by de House

Apartment in Kyiv in Kyiv, Ukraine, is by de House and was designed in 2023. The project includes a children’s room that will “evoke the character of a chalet in the Alps”. The interior and furniture of the apartment were created by the design team, who had to adapt their approach due to the disruptions caused by the war in Ukraine.

Adapting to War Conditions

We started this project about a month before the full-scale invasion in 2022. At first, it seemed standard, but later it turned into a real challenge – and not just in a professional sense.

We are used to working with clear technical specifications that specify dimensions, ergonomics, and materials. Here, we received only images, and even those turned out to be partially irrelevant. As a result, we had to not only do our part but also take over the design.

Rapid Progress Prior to War

Before the war started, we managed to implement part of the project. Then everything stopped – people moved away, and communication became difficult. We managed to complete it only in 2023 when we had the opportunity to return to work.

Design of Apartment Completed

We did the whole range of work: kitchen, cabinets, panels, children’s room – everything was created by us. The children’s room was especially successful – everything came together perfectly.

This project was important to us because it is about adaptation, endurance, and the ability to work even in the most difficult conditions. We spent about two months on the design alone, carefully considering every element – from the opening mechanisms to the choice of materials. In the process of implementation, we had to look for non-standard solutions: friezing, working with natural wood, plastic in the kitchen, etc.

Despite all the challenges, we brought the project to an end, and the customer was satisfied. It was a difficult but very valuable experience that once again confirmed our ability to find solutions even in unforeseen situations.
