Bivacco Brédy Offers Warmth and Shelter High in the Mountains

Bivacco Brédy is an innovative cabin located in the mountains of Italy by BCW Collective, designed in 2021. The structure is a memorial to Claudio Brédy, an alpinist who tragically lost his life in a climbing accident, symbolizing landscape appreciation and the alpine quality of his life. It features a welcoming interior, with wood panelling and climbing cord bunks, that connects to the stunning views of surrounding mountain peaks.

Located on the outskirts of the township of Wanaka, Sundance Rise house has a rural aspect that encouraged an open design, allowing in as much of the view as possible while still shielding the interiors from harsh elements. Designed by Condon Scott Architects, this house features walls and ceilings lined in birch ply, creating a warm interior, while the majority of the exterior showcases local schist stone, Corten steel, and timber weatherboards.

CCY Architects has designed a copper-clad house in San Miguel County, Colorado, nestled among Engelmann Spruce trees. Called DNA Alpine, the property includes a main house, sauna, and garage, with architecture inspired by the surrounding landscape and contemporary artists. The design accommodates extreme weather conditions, featuring a non-repetitive pattern on the façade derived from the DNA of neighbouring trees. This eclectic home combines natural materials with artful elements, offering expansive views of the alpine meadow while maintaining environmental sensitivity.
