Kart Projects designed House K, a single-storey residence in Australia, in 2021. The project, just a 50-square-metre extension, aimed to maximise garden space on a small block. The design retained existing spaces while cleverly overlapping functions. Coffered ceiling volumes in the addition provide a sense of spaciousness and light.
Sea Sight, located in Limassol, Cyprus, is a house designed by VOX Architects in 2023. A modern abode, it presents a harmonious blend of blue and turquoise hues contrasted by sunlit whites. Built into a hill, the house faces south with features like a powerful eave extension that serves dual purposes. Simple interiors feature brands like Laufen, Flos, and Lago, maintaining elegance and functionality. Its distinctive secret garden to the north adds a serene escape.
Las Rocas is a 6,400-metre-squared complex of houses in Valle de Bravo, Mexico, designed by Ignacio Urquiza Architecture. It features modular designs reflecting site-specific conditions and endemic vegetation. The homes, tied together by common facilities, feature central service areas for cars and bathrooms made of natural stone.
Designed by SOA, House Lhotka in Prague, Czech Republic, was completed in 2020. This house, arranged in four distinct volumes, is unified by a central corridor and dining area. Large windows and movable glass partitions enhance the connection to the garden.
FMT Estudio has revamped a historical house in Mérida, Mexico, respecting the neighborhood’s original architectural character. Completed in 2023, the Dolores project involved reconfiguring the property, adding contemporary elements to the original early 20th-century structure. Light volumes were added for contrast, along with wooden and marble details on windows and doors. The team aimed to preserve the neighborhood’s identity while incorporating modern updates to inspire other local developments.
In 2024, M2.senos Arquitectos designed the LBlack House in Matosinhos Municipality, Portugal. It features granite pavements and black brick facades. The home prioritizes openness with large courtyard-facing openings and maintains community presence with a street-facing railing.
The Magpie House, designed by DGN Studio in London, UK, underwent a transformation in 2022. The home’s owners, mid-century furniture collectors, tasked the studio with renovating and extending the ground floor. The project expanded to include refurbishing the upper floor, integrating vintage pieces from the clients’ collection. With a focus on spatial planning and natural light, the redesign ensures a cohesive flow and connection to the garden, utilising repurposed materials throughout.
Kelder Architects has renovated and extended Avonleigh Queenslander to centre around its double-height grand room. The project prioritises outdoor living, with sandstone and timber fretwork bringing material interest throughout the Queensland home.
