Located in Beijing, China, designed by Archstudio in 2024, Lei Homestay is a hotel that organizes its architectural design around three trees, forming two well-proportioned courtyards that bring in ample sunlight and views of seasonal changes. The main structure is crafted from glued laminated timber, which, beneath the double-pitched roof, supports a variety of staggered platform spaces, evoking the sensation of living amidst a forest.

Perched on a bluff overlooking a meandering estuary, the Galien River Retreat house in New Buffalo, MI, is designed by Wheeler Kearns Architects, creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere while integrating both modern and serene elements. Expressed glulam structure and weathered gray Accoya wood siding were selected for their ability to weather and wear beautifully over time, while the home offers a calm design response to urban pressures.
