House in Guardamar del Segura: Maximizing Natural Light

Modern open-concept interior with wooden table, metal stairs, and balcony view.

This stunning house in Guardamar del Segura, designed by renowned architect Bernardo Cerrato, showcases a clever solution to the challenges posed by the narrow plot.

Located in Alicante, Spain, the 2022 project features a central courtyard that serves as the key element, allowing natural light and ventilation to reach all the main rooms. The inverted floor plan, with private spaces on the first floor and the day area on the second, demonstrates the designer’s thoughtful approach to balancing functionality and comfort.

Greentree Residence: Reviving a 1930s Historic Modern Home

A mid-century modern home surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant flowers.

When the in-floor radiant piping failed in the slab of this 2,700-square-foot historic modern home from the 1930s, the owners were presented with a challenging decision. The Greentree Residence, a house located in Bloomfield Township, Michigan, United States, was restored by Disbrow Iannuzzi, showcasing their expertise in reviving vintage properties. The design team replaced the floor slab with bespoke pigmented and polished concrete, added a second-floor bedroom, and renovated the entire home, preserving the original steel-framed glazing.
