Designed by Ábaton, the El Escorial Renovation is a comprehensive overhaul of a 1976 house in Madrid, Spain. Situated amid the dense forest of Mount Abantos, the project focuses on sustainability and energy efficiency, utilizing modern technologies and materials. The design prioritizes the connection with the surrounding environment, incorporating large windows for natural light and integrating as much of the original structure as possible. The renovation encourages family interaction, linking indoor and outdoor spaces seamlessly.
Villa LO, a house in Aalter, Belgium, was designed by JUMA architects in 2024. The clients requested a charming design, resulting in a classic gable roof and traditional materials like solid oak beams and burgundy tiles. The volumes are interconnected in a minimalist way, offering a contemporary take on a classic theme. The interior features smoked oak furniture, rounded details, and Travertine floors that extend outside, creating a cohesive and inviting space.
JUMA Architects expanded Villa RN – an existing farmstead in Anzegem, Belgium, with the addition of a new volume positioned at right angles to the original structure. Designed in 2024, the extension features a distinctive black wooden facade and roof, creating a contemporary contrast.

Alicia Luxem designed “Turenne” in 2023, at this Paris apartment, where the interiors are defined by the use of lime-plaster walls and solid wood floors. In addition to the carpentry crafted from metal and locally-sourced, natural materials, this aesthetic is complemented by a “cutting-edge” art collection. Pale, neutral tones create a “calm shell”, accented by bold-coloured furniture found within the space. Vintage pieces with their “own stories” add “a bit of variety of colours” to the design.
Urban Soul Project has completed a set of cave-like holiday suites on the Greek island of Zakynthos. Designed in 2022, Yoma Suites is nestled within a steeply sloping site of the Greek isle. It position was chosen for optimal views to the west, overlooking the sea.
Uruk is a restaurant in Kazakhstan, designed by Rustam Hamd in 2023. The project’s minimalist interior avoids typical Eastern cliches and instead features recognisable elements of Turkic nomadic culture, like kinetic installations inspired by traditional crafts and everyday objects. The decor evokes an Eastern ambiance with a monochrome “steppe” palette, adras-patterned furniture, and straw lampshades, creating a cohesive and subtle atmosphere.
