About Residential House in Klaipeda

Inspiration Born from Nature

Nestled in Klaipėda, by the Baltic Sea, this house emerges from the landscape of a former dune now transformed into a dense pine forest. The architectural design takes inspiration from the natural surroundings, aiming to mirror the texture of pine bark in its facade. This objective has been achieved by creating walls and a roof that, similar to scales, echo the pine bark’s unique pattern.

A Modern Twist on Traditional Design

The house’s silhouette subtly recalls the gabled fishermen’s houses of yore, which traditionally bore carved horse details. In our modern reinterpretation, the house replaces the horses with a prominent steel downspout, a contemporary detail that juts into the facade. This feature embodies the spirit and symbolism of outstretched seagull wings.

An Exterior That Blends with the Landscape

The exterior of the house, with its clay tiles, appears to have naturally emerged from the ground. Drawing inspiration from an overturned boat, outstretched seagull wings, and pine bark, the house forms a striking yet harmonious addition to the landscape. Despite its dynamic and unusual shape, the house’s design does not carry over into the interior.

Maximizing Space and Light

While the house is compact, it successfully accommodates a variety of spaces, including a hunter’s room, children’s rooms, sauna, spa areas, and an additional kitchen. The design strategy prioritized avoiding any conflict between the building’s exterior symbolism and the interior layout. Therefore, we opted for a minimalist approach with light-colored walls and ceilings. The staircase, a sculptural masterpiece, elegantly spirals from the basement to the second floor, serving as the cohesive element within the space.

Embracing the Outdoors

Minimal distractions populate the interior of the house, allowing the captivating outdoor views to become an integral part of the interior. With a view of coastal pines and grassy former dunes, the restrained interior embraces its surroundings. It’s as if the outdoors have been transformed into photo wallpapers, seamlessly integrating with the indoor space.
