Via Volta Apartment by Archventil Defines Minimalismo Umano Elegance

The international architecture and interior design studio Archventil transformed a Milan apartment into a serene escape for the new owners that celebrated individualism. Tapping a style called Minimalismo Umano, the Via Volta Apartment balances a monochrome palette with “tactile natural textures and eclectic details” according to the studio, redefining the original interior by opening up the previously segmented layout and stripping back adornments to make room for furnishings and social activities.

Milan Apartment Embraces Minimalismo Umano

Archventil redefined an apartment in Milan through a “minimalismo umano” design philosophy, creating a serene home that balances minimalism and human touch.

Located within the Vitruvio 43 tower in Milan, the apartment features contemporary decor that blends tactile natural textures with eclectic details.

“The apartment design appeals to the senses rather than the eye,” said studio co-founder Elizaveta Golovina.

“We aimed to accentuate the intrinsic beauty of the materials instead of typical ornate embellishments,” she told.

“These spaces are in connection with the open loggia with glass railings that enhance the feeling of openness in hold space and give the opportunity to enjoy the Milan view as a great addition.”

The owners, a young couple, hired Archventil to redesign the interior following the purchase of shell space at the end of 2021. The space features atypical geometry dictated by the supporting columns of the building, which Archventil’s team turned into an advantage.

Numerous spaces are constituted with convex walls that contribute to their cosiness, such as the bedroom, the bathroom or the working space.

“Our main goal was to create a sophisticated restrained interior that exudes a warm haven and minimalistic sophistication at the same time, filled with light and warmth,” added Golovina.

In the relaxation zone, Golovina explained that the furniture elements were defined with a monochromatic palette where different textures add depth to the space.

Glossy surfaces, similar to monochromic lacquered panels, contrast smooth matte finishes by means of fabrics or stone to achieve a “tactile pleasure”.

“The stunning ‘Le Bambole’ sofa by Mario Bellini — a famous example of Italian design, awarded with Compasso d’Oro in 1979, perfectly complements the room’s aesthetics with its voluminous, soft cushions that invite relaxation,” said Golovina.

“The low metal coffee table sets a contemporary tone, while a custom-made pouffe in a bright shade of blue delivers an eye-catching contrast.”

Kitchen Prioritises Functionality and Efficiency

In the kitchen, open shelves contribute to accentuate the ceiling height alongside light lacquer colour finishes to give an impression of an illuminated canvas.

Down to the smallest detail, Archventil added a balance of textures throughout the project. Travertine lampshades on the oak panels add depth, warmth and luxury to both main rooms, according to the studio.

“The design is defined by an elegant restraint and an individualistic approach that quietly exudes a sense of materiality, style and seduction,” said Golovina.

“The design created by Archventil speaks for itself by capturing the eye and the emotions.”
