Fitzroy North Terrace Updates Victorian Home with Eclectic Interiors
Fitzroy North Terrace by Field Office Architecture blends historic charm with contemporary design in Fitzroy Crossing, Australia. The home, originally a Victorian terrace, was updated to enhance natural light and create a harmonious connection to nature.

Victorian Terrace Update
Fitzroy North Terrace, designed by Field Office Architecture, combines historic charm with contemporary design to create a light-filled residence for a creative family.

The home, initially a stately Victorian terrace, previously underwent renovation 15 years ago that failed to introduce key elements such as natural light and a connection to nature. These became fundamental pillars of the client brief to Field Office Architecture.
In addressing these requirements, alongside a focus on creating a template for better living, Fitzroy North Terrace was transformed into an enduring and light-filled forever home.

Natural Materials and Light Interiors
While the exterior of the residence’s rear volume, along with a new garage and guest accommodation, is intentionally restrained to silver-top ash cladding and reclaimed bricks, the interior showcases a careful curation of surface textures, tones, and expressions. Materials like sandstone, terrazzo, ceramic tiles, and rich walnut veneer were selected to seamlessly converse with the home’s period ambience.

These materials also align with the family’s preference for subtly eclectic furniture and styling, while accentuating the botanical atmosphere of the garden, making it an extension of the living and kitchen zones.

The design strategically optimizes programming, cultivating quality spaces that are passively ventilated and thermally comfortable. The careful consideration of daily living patterns and personal rituals has resulted in a home that radiates ease and delight, providing an ideal environment for rejuvenation and fulfilment.

Fitzroy North Terrace serves as a thoughtfully crafted homage to the concept of ikigai, manifesting an architectural embodiment of refined Australian contemporary living.
