House responds to its surrounding, views and the orientation of the plot. It is shaped into “L” layout and is partly single-story, only the main volume facing the street is two-story, creating a natural height transition between adjacent houses.
Elevated Central Living Space Organised Around Private Rooms
The concept of spatial arrangement is based on a lofty central living area connected to a communication axis passing through the house from the entrance to the private rooms facing the garden. At the same time, the house is shaped around a small atrium with living area oriented into it.
Light Plaster and Wood Create Significance and Detail at House
The expression of the house is based on a basic composition of light plastered volumes supplemented by wooden objects which soften the overall look of the house with their detail of structure.
The main building volume is lightened by the composition of corner horizontal windows. Firts corner glazing emphasizes the entrance to the house at the intersection of the cantilevered canopy with the main volume. The corner window in the study brings southern sunlight into the living space and as we ascend the staircase, this window opens up a panoramic view of the pond. A window in the high part of the living room provides western sunshine with its rays reflecting onto the opposite concrete wall. This corner window is also the only one framelessly fixed, creating an abstract image of the sky in the interior.
The largest corner window, in the form of a large glass wall on the ground floor of the living room, links the atrium with the interior. In contrast to the horizontal windows, vertical french windows in the back private part of the house support the solid expression of this volume. The play of light and shadow in the interior is further enhanced by roof skylights.
