House Beneath the Cross Hill by Hurá Studio

House Beneath the Cross Hill sits on a gentle slope in Rokycany, Czech Republic, a modest house by Hurá Studio for the architect’s parents. The timber-forward interior gathers daylight through large, square windows and a measured plan with shared rooms at grade. Calm and personal, the home favors craft over show and keeps a direct line to the landscape.

A low gable rises behind fruit trees, white against the hillside. Through wide square openings, winter light pours across pale wood floors and the tiled hearth flickers.

This is a compact house in Rokycany by Hurá Studio, built for the architect’s parents with patient, hands-on craft. The story centers on interior palette and furnishing—how timber, tile, and soft color bring warmth to everyday life.

Framing Light And Views

Deep picture windows read like refined apertures, their plywood jambs widened into benches for reading and watching the village below. One window anchors the living room beside a white, masonry-clad fireplace, turning the corner into a daybed while a second frame aligns with dining and the garden beyond.

Timber, Tile, Texture

Exposed beams run across the ceiling and set a steady rhythm over the living, dining, and kitchen areas. Underfoot, blond boards meet a run of light tile at the working zone, where a mint mosaic backsplash and simple pendants lend a fresh, quiet gleam.

Built-Ins With Purpose

Plywood casework ties the rooms together, from the long media console to a wall of shelving that folds around a pocket door and the stair. Storage sits low beneath the window benches, encouraging clear surfaces and keeping everyday things close without visual noise.

Dining, Cooking, Gathering

A straightforward island stretches toward the table, its end capped by open shelves that hold plants and bowls. Mixed wood chairs, pale and sturdy, temper the room’s order with small differences that feel human and relaxed.

Rooms For Rest

Bedrooms keep the same palette: white walls, plywood headboards, and quiet pendant lights. Upstairs, a simple bed faces a gable opening with a slender Juliet railing, giving fresh air and a quick sightline to the trees.

Everyday Rituals

In the bathroom, white grid tile meets a green floor, and a floating plywood vanity carries round knobs and a circular mirror for a clean, tactile read. The palette holds together—light wood, soft whites, and gentle greens—so morning routines land calm and unhurried.

Outside, the house stays quiet: a white gable, dark roof, and windows set with care. Warm light edges out at dusk, and the hillside folds the home back into the village.
