Located in one of the most affluent neighbourhoods in Toronto, the Hoggs Hollow, 10° of Separation House is a response to the existing geographical context and nature of the site, as well as the client’s needs for a retirement home. The project employs handmade brick, dark stucco, dark bronze anodized aluminum cladding and large terrazzo tiles, among other materials, to realise the architect’s specific spatial vision and features, including a celebrated 10° angle rotation .
Materializing the collection of memories of the homeowner – a recently graduated doctor from Porto Alegre (south of Brazil) – in his new home in São Paulo guided the renovation project of this 68-square-meter apartment designed by Vinicius Almeida of StudioVA Arquitetos. Characterised by an expressive design combining corner windows, a central living area, and elements including light plaster and structure-detailed wood, the residential real estate maximises sunshine and visuals.
Perched on a bluff overlooking a meandering estuary, the Galien River Retreat house in New Buffalo, MI, is designed by Wheeler Kearns Architects, creating a warm and comfortable atmosphere while integrating both modern and serene elements. Expressed glulam structure and weathered gray Accoya wood siding were selected for their ability to weather and wear beautifully over time, while the home offers a calm design response to urban pressures.
Patch Apartment is located in Pontevedra, Spain. Designed by Nan Arquitectos, the apartment includes three bedrooms, a living/dining/kitchen area, three bathrooms, and a workspace. An array of warm materials creates a versatile environment with a vintage character. The project reflects a flowing aesthetic across the space, which includes a collaboration with indirect lighting that is intended to generate relaxed atmospheres and distinct working and living feelings.
Nestled in Hudson, Wisconsin, the residence known as Nature’s Edge embodies a design philosophy that emphasizes harmony with the environment. The house, designed by JMAD James McNeal Architecture & Design, artfully integrates with its surroundings while accommodating the clients’ wish for a spacious home that doesn’t appear large. Completed in 2023, Nature’s Edge prioritizes views and connecting living spaces, resulting in an inviting, functional residence.
Located in Pietrasanta, Italy, PTS B is a contemporary penthouse designed by A/B Studio in 2022. The project transformed an old workshop into a comfortable residence that cleverly combines space for family life with a home office. Designed to suit the owner’s requirements, the building is characterised by a minimal-industrial aesthetic, with bronzed details throughout and an array of custom-made furnishings.
