BROM is a house located in Lac Brome, Canada. Designed by Atelier Carle in 2024, this project is grounded in a critical approach to sustainability issues related to residential architecture in rural areas. The project weaves sensitive relations with the timeline, thus creating an architectural landscape that participates in our culture.
Designed in 2020 by Atelier MEME, the Futtsu Weekend House is located in Chiba, Japan. Nestled along the coastline, it features a design that intentionally emphasizes the relationship with its natural surroundings, offering captivating views of both sea and mountains. The home frames its landscapes, capturing the ebb and flow of the ocean and the embrace of densely foliated hills, creating a unique sense of tranquility and liberation from daily life.
The clients presented an extremely narrow site in Thiruvanthapuram, India as part of their design brief. The resultant Narrow Brick House, designed by Srijit Srinivas Architects in 2022, features a house with a generous 117 sq.m. of built-up area on the elongated 283 sq.m. site. The light-touch minimalist approach also finds expression in the various interior design elements like wardrobes, shelving, fenestrations etc– all pared back to the bare minimum required.
Located in Malibu, California, United States, Highway House was designed by Vertebrae as a house. Inspired by the Santa Monica Mountains, the property features four structures, including the primary building and guest suite framing a central courtyard, as well as a pool house and sauna. The project, completed in 2024, offers contemporary, minimalist architecture rooted in climate response, community engagement, and environmentally conscious design practices.
This custom single-family residence is a renovation of an existing mid-century split-level home, purchased by an empty-nester couple located in Englewood, NJ, United States. The house’s material palette reflects the owners’ appreciation of the warmth of wood and stone elements, designed by Robert Gross Architecture in 2023. The residence employs highly energy-efficient strategies, including deep overhanging eaves for solar shading and a highly super-insulated envelope with high-performance glazing.
Set against the tranquil backdrop of Yucca Valley, California, the Panorama House presents a haven away from city life. Crafted by Andrew Goodwin Designs in 2023, this 1,535-square-foot structure resides on an expansive five-acre plot. The residence functions as a perfect vacation getaway, highlighting a distinctive folding roof configuration that resonates with its desert environment.
Located in Tulum, Mexico, Villa Amaite is a house designed by Ignacio Cabrera that emphasises a nature-immersed design. Designed in 2023, the layout showcases a main structure that accommodates up to 12 guests while a smaller secondary home incorporates the same design language. The project utilises chukum on the exterior walls and features open-plan living areas that maximise both space and ocean views, all within tropical surroundings.
In the midst of Madrid, resides Casa Cometa, a shining example of imaginative design curated by Bardo Arquitectura. Built in 2024, this apartment overhaul tackles a distinctive obstacle—an almost caving-in roof. To remedy this issue, the architects suggested the addition of a second level, effectively birthing a new inhabitable area while bolstering structural support.
