Renovated in 2023, Ivens Apartment in Lisbon, Portugal, showcases a playful fusion of contemporary and vintage styles by X Atelier. The apartment’s whimsical design instills versatility for a creative inhabitant, promoting multifaceted use throughout its lively spaces. With an emphasis on informal areas, the flat features a sculptural spiral staircase, dynamic textiles, and a concealed children’s room behind a wardrobe door, creating an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere for relaxation and entertainment.

The Lotus House, also known as Pedroso I House, is a single-family home in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, designed by Raulino Silva in 2022. Nestled on land once part of the Pedroso Monastery, the steep plot maintains its natural vegetation and trees. A large terrace on the upper floor provides views at tree level and serves the main living spaces, while the lower floor features a granite stone facade, a patio, and an indoor pool.

In Milan, Italy, a 1930s apartment has been updated by Milanese practice Studio Arkevo. Completed in 2024, the renovations feature color-soaked ceilings and contemporary elements to infuse it with character and create an intriguing backdrop for art. White walls provide the perfect canvas for the young couple’s collection of sculptures and prints. Molded ceilings and wooden frames around windows were maintained, adding warmth and tactility to the space.

TAEP/AAP has updated the traditional architecture of the Northern Gulf with a cylindrical house surrounded by towering walls in Al Khiran, Kuwait. Designed in 2023, White Fortress contrasts its arid surroundings with an interior filled with spacious rooms, views of the Gulf Sea, and various oval-shaped patios and gardens. A rooftop tower acts as a “seacoast lighthouse”, framing sandy vistas.

Loft & Studio for Marcel by MH.AP transforms an abandoned basement storage space in Barcelona into a versatile living area. Designed around two patios, the project features exposed Catalan vaults and thick old concrete walls for thermal comfort.

A custom-made plywood kitchen, oak flooring, and carefully placed outdoor elements enhance the open-plan interior, utilising natural light and vintage tiles for a bright, airy atmosphere.

SMA Architetti has completed the refurbishment of the Attic G-24 apartment in Varese, Italy. The project revised an existing, incomplete structure into a cohesive space defined by geometry and formal continuity.

The duplex-style design connects the levels with a striking staircase and features an interior filled with artisan materials and contemporary flourishes like inset lighting and slot windows. The top floor captures uninterrupted views across the long, narrow space, while the lower level perimeter is entirely utilised for key functions.
