About Silo Apartment M-M
Revolutionizing Space: The Silo Apartment Transformation
Arjaan de Feyter has creatively transformed four heritage Belgian silos, moving beyond traditional four-wall confines. These silo apartments, set on an Antwerp canal, showcase a unique blend of ancient circular shapes and age-old materials. This design approach proves that embracing curves can redefine refined living, offering a rounded alternative to the conventional square.
Strategic Design and Custom Solutions
To create ‘visual pause’, two straight walls divide each silo into monochromatic, separate, and shared spaces. Custom-made solutions ingeniously tackle the spatial constraints. Linen curtains segment the space, adding privacy and drama under architectural ceiling lights.
Industrial Roots and Tactile Materials
Interior architect Arjaan de Feyter enjoyed returning the space to its industrial origins. He exposed concrete floors, plaster walls, and brick structure, emphasizing raw integrity. The concrete walls feature neutral mineral paint, while hand-pigmented dark silver adorns kitchen cabinetry and bedroom wardrobes. The open-plan kitchen boasts a titanium benchtop, highlighting intricate details and blending perfectly with brass fittings.
