About Bayview Residence

Reviving Sarasota: A Modern Home with a View

In Sarasota Bay, a young couple’s desire to reconnect with their roots transformed an ordinary site into a remarkable residence. Previously, a unique but outdated mid-century modern home occupied this location. The couple replaced it with a new, creatively separated structure, designed to foster three unique outdoor spaces.

A Backyard with a Bay View

The residence’s backyard, undulating in topography, offers stunning views of the bay and distant Lido Key. Additionally, a courtyard, tucked between the main and guest houses, provides a secluded play area for their children. Surrounding the northern and eastern sides, a lush mix of grasses and ferns starkly contrasts the dark limestone walls.

Innovative Design Elements

A welcoming large gate ushers guests into an outdoor foyer, leading to the main entrance. The architectural design strategically incorporates gaps, allowing the structure to breathe. Clerestory windows create a visual separation between roofs and walls. Steel columns connect to slender knife plates, and slabs cantilever mere inches (centimeters) above ground. The standout feature, a staircase, appears to float above a solid base. Each space, including the guesthouse, enjoys bay views, harmonizing the entire residence with its coastal surroundings.
