About Casa de las Cortinas
Revolutionizing Home Lighting
This home transformation project primarily tackles light infusion into a dark residential block. Thus, Granada’s “El Bañuelo,” an 11th-century Arabic bathhouse, served as a foundational inspiration. Although it lacks an outward-facing facade, this architectural wonder boasts dome-pierced skylights, bathing its interior in vertical, zenithal light. These illuminative perforations set the tone for this home’s lighting approach.
Innovative Light Perforations
Drawing inspiration, we demolished much of the internal partitions. In their place, we incorporated horizontal cylindrical perforations, ushering in natural light into newly crafted spaces.
Tailored Light Control
Yet, with this structural innovation came a challenge: managing this newfound illumination. Depending on the time of day and desired ambiance, the light intensity needed adjustment. Our solution? Introducing opaque, movable curtains. These partitions either permit or restrict light entry, offering control at one’s fingertips.
Synchronized with Mood and Time
Harnessing light and color, the house now resonates with its inhabitant’s emotions. Every room adapts in purpose and ambiance, evolving with the day’s progression.
