Quogue Shingle-Style by Smiros & Smiros
Quogue Shingle-Style is a traditional residence located in Quogue, New York, designed by Smiros & Smiros.
Description
There is power in a broader perspective, whether it refers merely to visual scope or the considerations about the infinite universe. Situated on a small inlet, a 1970s house stood with questionable motives, facing a willfully narrow perspective of a breathtaking panoramic view along a generously proportioned bay.
Impossible to build beyond the existing footprint, we rotated the orientation for a new shingle home and elevated it to suddenly gain a radically expanded perspective – views revealing that the house was on a peninsula, not just a quaint inlet. Along a generously fenestrated wall facing the water, we placed an enfilade of the primary living spaces, facilitating flow for gathering and entertaining. It is an entirely different outlook on the family’s immediate world.
