The designers have skillfully blended conservative restoration and new construction to create a harmonious and comfortable hotel that celebrates the unique natural surroundings.
About Hotel Le Dune Piscinas
Situated in the breathtaking Ingurtosu mining park of southwestern Sardinia, the Hotel Le Dune Piscinas offers a captivating blend of historical charm and modern luxury. Designed by the acclaimed PL-AG Studio in 2024, this hotel is a true gem, seamlessly integrating with the stunning Costa Verde landscape and the protected Piscinas dunes.
Crafting a Unique Experience
The design team at PL-AG Studio collaborated closely with skilled artisans to create custom elements that harmonize the decorative and material aspects with the rigor of design. As a result, the hotel provides an engaging, scenographic experience and a high level of comfort for its guests.
Discovering Unexpected Delights
The design approach focuses on crafting environments with unexpected charm, where guests can uncover delightful details at different scales during their stay. This stimulates curiosity and generates a continuous “journey” within the hotel’s structure, ensuring a truly immersive experience.
Adaptive and Responsive Design
The project, developed over three years, was conceived as a series of layers. The designers broke the certainties of traditional design to accommodate the fragile and specific nature of this isolated, time-suspended location, exposed to the power of the elements. By adapting spaces and functions, they have generated a new level of comfort that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding environment.
Entrance: Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future
The hotel’s entrance is located in the original 30-meter (98-foot) long stone gallery, where mine carts once passed. The teak floor, interspersed with ebony strips, recreates the effect of railway sleepers, and the contemporary lighting installation on the wall simulates torch flames, paying homage to the site’s mining heritage.
Blending Tradition and Modernity
Throughout the hotel, the design team has skillfully incorporated elements of Sardinian architecture and decoration, such as arched alcoves and bas-reliefs in the plastered walls. The custom-made furniture, primarily in oak, straw, and forged iron, blends seamlessly with iconic design pieces, creating a harmonious and inviting atmosphere.
Discovering Hidden Gems
The hotel boasts a range of thoughtfully designed spaces, including a library with a wall-to-wall bookcase showcasing literature on Sardinia and mining themes, as well as a collection of local minerals. Sophisticated technology is discreetly integrated into the architectural and furniture elements, allowing for a seamless and immersive experience.
Oasis of Relaxation
The hotel’s fitness and spa facilities are designed with the guest’s well-being in mind. The sauna overlooks the stunning Piscinas dunes, and the custom-made furniture blends effortlessly with iconic design pieces, creating a serene and rejuvenating atmosphere.
Unique Room Experiences
Each of the 28 rooms in the Hotel Le Dune Piscinas has been thoughtfully designed, with unique features and adaptations to the design elements, colors, and finishes. Some suites even boast large open private spaces and small private stone swimming pools, offering guests a truly indulgent and personalized experience.
Embracing the Dramatic and the Sublime
The hotel’s crown jewel is the master suite, where a space completely covered in dark basalt slabs with different finishes creates a dramatic, almost cave-like atmosphere. This space houses a stunning bathtub and shower, providing guests with a truly immersive and unforgettable experience.
