Late light hits the lacquered wall and runs the length of the room. Doors vanish in the color, turning the boundary to the private wing into a quiet, continuous line.

This apartment in São Paulo is renovated by Studio Canto Arquitectura for a sociable couple, with a plan that keeps living, dining, and leisure open and connected. The throughline is interior palette and furnishing: bold color blocks, warm cumaru underfoot, and custom pieces that anchor daily rituals.

Set the Tone

The entry lands in color—saturated and bright—establishing an upbeat register that carries through the social rooms. A sofa designed for the project faces a long millwork element that bridges living and dining, keeping conversation central while storing the essentials. Hidden doors within the lacquered wall compress circulation into a clean plane and cue the shift toward private rooms.

Blue Room, Clear Pause

A monochrome blue office reads as a single volume, a pause amid the warmer tones beyond. Custom shelving lines the walls for books, keepsakes, and personal objects, turning storage into an ordered display that tempers the apartment’s lively mood. The consistent hue tightens the room’s edges, sharpening focus without breaking the home’s easy flow.

Play at the Center

In the heart of the living room, a pinball machine becomes social gravity. Friends gather around it, and its kinetic lights animate the evening—more party spark than ornament. Nearby, a built-in nook welcomes the couple’s cats, a small, precise carve-out that folds pet life into the daily scene without fuss.

Color Works the Kitchen

The kitchen stacks blue, yellow, and green in crisp planes that sort tasks by zone. Generous storage corrals tableware, and an integrated bar pulls guests toward the counter for casual pours and quick conversation. Color does real work here: it energizes mornings, brightens prep, and sets a sociable tempo from breakfast to late-night snacks.

Calm for Rest

In the bedroom, the palette softens to neutrals and tone-on-tone cabinetry that quiets the room. Handles recess, lines stay simple, and textiles lower the volume, creating a clear cue for rest. The restraint sharpens the contrast to the public rooms, making the return to calm feel deliberate and earned.

Warm cumaru flooring runs throughout and ties the rooms together with a steady grain. Afternoon light grazes the boards and the lacquered wall, catching color and texture in a single pass. The home ends on that cadence: lively where people gather, composed where the day lets go.
