Casa del Colle by Caracter Architettura d’Interni
Casa del Colle sits in the alpine town of Sestriere, Italy, where Caracter Architettura d’Interni reshapes a compact chalet into a darkly polished retreat. The interior leans into warm timber, stone textures, and plush textiles, framing the mountain view with a calm, contemporary mood. Rooms flow from fireplace lounge to bunk-lined corridor and wrapped bed alcoves, giving the small footprint a sense of choreography instead of crowding.

Low light brushes across knotty timber walls as the fire burns in the corner hearth and snow piles against the balcony rail outside. Deep charcoal sofas, thick curtains, and a dark hide rug pull the eye inward before the view through the glazed doors draws it back to the mountains.
This compact chalet in Sestriere, Italy, is reimagined by Caracter Architettura d’Interni as a warm, contemporary retreat organized around texture and tone. Every room balances rough wood, smooth stone, and soft textiles, creating a continuous interior palette that grounds the daily rhythm of mountain life. The project treats surfaces, furniture, and light as one composition, turning a modest footprint into an intimate sequence of richly finished rooms.
Living Core
In the main living area, vertical timber planks wrap the walls and ceiling while a charcoal-gray volume holds the built-in fireplace and television. Two low, oversized sofas in dark upholstery line the perimeter, encouraging guests to sit close to the fire and face the balcony doors. Wall sconces throw twin beams of light onto a textured stone panel, adding a gentle play of shadow above the seating. A small cluster of round tables and a dark hide rug keep circulation open yet anchor the room around the hearth.
Kitchen And Hearth
Beyond the lounge, the kitchen runs as a linear volume with white cabinetry framed by timber and a black worktop that echoes the fireplace surround. A long island built from the same wood doubles as dining counter and social hub, with black stools and sculptural pendant lights bringing a deliberate rhythm overhead. Integrated lighting along the backsplash washes the counter in an even glow, while recessed spots in the timber soffit punctuate the ceiling without visual noise. The continuous floorboards and aligned grain tie this cooking and dining zone back to the living room, so the main level reads as one cohesive interior.
Bunk Room Retreat
A dedicated bunk room turns the corridor plan into a compact sleeping cabin lined with custom carpentry. Built-in wooden bunks stack on both sides, their ladders and guardrails carved from the same sturdy boards, keeping the volume clean and efficient. Black bedding and graphic patterned pillows sharpen the rustic shell with a contemporary note. At the far end, patterned curtains frame a narrow window to the slopes, so the room still connects to daylight beyond the timber envelope.
Wrapped Bedroom And Baths
In the main bedroom, a full-height timber headboard extends to the ceiling, where boards continue overhead to form a warm canopy. Suspended pendant lights drop on either side, leaving the nightstands as simple wood cylinders and keeping the view toward the mountains clear. Thick, fur-like bedding adds depth and tactility, reinforcing the chalet character while the walls remain spare. Curtains in a dense, nubby weave temper the light, allowing the room to shift easily from bright morning to cocooned evening.
Bathrooms carry the same material story into tighter volumes, pairing wood cabinetry with dark stone or concrete-like wall panels. One vanity sets a rectangular black basin against timber, lit from a concealed strip above that washes the surface in soft light. Another combines a stone vessel sink with broad drawers, while a glass-walled shower anchors the corner with a darker enclosure. Simple black fixtures and a round mirror keep the composition calm, letting grain, reflection, and shadow do the visual work.
As day fades outside, light from sconces, pendants, and hidden strips grazes the textured walls and ceilings, turning surfaces into quiet focal points. The chalet holds its line between rugged and refined, using a precise interior palette to frame both the fire within and the mountain panorama beyond.
