About YA-House

Integrating Architecture with Nature

This residence, nestled in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, perches near a mountain peak, harmoniously blending with its natural surroundings. The sloped site, carved into the mountain, offers a captivating vista of trees, endless skies, and refreshing winds. Our aim was to connect the richness of this natural setting with everyday living, deepening the joy and tranquility experienced by its inhabitants.

Creating Spaces that Celebrate Diversity and Infinity

The design comprises two vertical walls and four horizontal slabs, all aligned with the slope. This configuration forms distinct living spaces, each offering a unique connection to nature. These varied interactions with the environment highlight nature’s boundless potential. Additionally, by blurring the boundaries between nature and architecture, we have stripped away the materiality of the walls and slabs. One side features bare concrete while the other is painted white, leaving only their essence as surfaces.

Discovering the ‘Empty’ World

Our abstract approach with these six elements transforms the spaces from concrete reality to an abstract realm. Here, nothing exists but the ever-changing face of nature and the fluidity of the human mind. This environment fosters a symbiotic relationship where everything merges into a unified whole. In this space, minds embrace the infinity of nature, achieving intense liberation and discovering profound joy in the journey of life.
