Transforming a Dim Tel-Aviv Apartment
In Tel-Aviv, a family of five occupied a 5-bedroom apartment within a 20-year-old building. Boasting 130 sqm (1399.31 sqft), the space unfortunately felt dark and sun-starved. The separated living room and kitchen limited natural light, further dimming the interiors.
Recognizing this, the family sought my expertise. Their vision? An open, brighter living area with added storage solutions. As an architect and a literature enthusiast, I noticed the books scattered throughout the home. Clearly, we needed a unified storage solution. Moreover, the family’s aesthetic leaned toward light hues, with a strict no-black policy.
Breathing Light into the Living Area
Firstly, I repositioned the kitchen, aligning it openly with the living space. Consequently, the kitchen counter now parallels the garage wall, and a kitchen island gracefully divides the kitchen and dining areas.
To foster a serene ambiance, I selected white marble Calcutta for the counter. This choice effortlessly bridges the light gray flooring with the countertop. Additionally, the Calcutta’s subtle veining ensures it complements rather than dominates the space.
Integrating Functional and Aesthetic Storage
Close to the dining section, a previously nondescript wall separated the living area from the bedrooms. Transforming this, I replaced the wall with a storage closet. I then finished the closet’s rear with a bleached oak, echoing the bedroom parquets. Furthermore, I introduced white, thin metal shelves, paying homage to the family’s extensive book collection.
Final Touches to Enhance Ambience
I dressed the couch in a light gray fishbone pattern. Beside it, minimalistic round concrete tables offer a modern touch, balancing functionality with style.
