Ethereal Light Apartment Features Wabi-Sabi Interior Design
The Ethereal Light apartment in Bucharest, Romania, designed by Jooca Studio in 2022, embodies a sleek and minimalist aesthetic. Characterized by natural, earthy tones with a wabi-sabi influence, the interior uses custom furniture and decor to enhance its compact 90-square-meter layout.
The interior spans 90 square meters and includes an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area, two bedrooms, an office/guest room, two bathrooms and a hallway. The rooms, although compact, benefit from a minimalist, low-contrast design, intended to make the space appear larger and more unified.
Natural Light and High Ceilings
A notable feature of this Bucharest apartment is its generous windows and high ceilings, which allow natural light to flood the space. This abundance of light led to the project’s name, “Ethereal Light.” The beneficiaries sought an apartment that would induce calm, relaxation, simplicity and refinement, aligning with natural light and thoughtful design.

Custom Design Elements
In the open-plan space, simplicity is highlighted through semi-circular milling details on the kitchen doors and dining table legs, custom-made specifically for this project. Circular coffee tables and lamps further enhance this design, while decorative paint in a darker shade of grey highlights certain walls, adding subtle contrast and interest.
Thoughtful bedroom design
The master bedroom features a recessed area with a dropped ceiling in front of the window. Jooca Studio transformed this architectural quirk into a focal point, decorating it in a similar way to the bookshelf in front of the alcove. Simple white furniture with rounded corners, along with a chandelier and sleek black Grok wall lights, complement the room’s minimalist design.
Vibrant and Fun Kids’ Spaces
In the girl’s bedroom, soft pinks, cherry tones and subtle grey-blue and green hues create a harmonious, child-friendly environment. Wall and Deco wallpaper, with an illustration-like graphic reminiscent of Japanese artwork, sets the tone for the room. The accent colour, a burgundy metal bed frame with semi-circular detailing, echoes the shapes of the Aromas del Campo wall lights, adding to the room’s whimsical charm.
