Cabin in Sandefjord by Gudmundur Jonsson Arkitektkontor

Cabin in Sandefjord is a house in Sandefjord, Norway, by Gudmundur Jonsson Arkitektkontor. Set on a coastal site, it turns decisively toward the water and keeps the view active from both the front and rear of the plan. Glass walls, timber surfaces, and a long dining line shape a calm, open interior.

About Cabin in Sandefjord

On the rocky edge of the site, the house sits low and horizontal. Its broad glazing catches the shifting light from the coast and carries the horizon deep into the interior.

Cabin in Sandefjord is a house in Sandefjord, Norway, by Gudmundur Jonsson Arkitektkontor. The project centers on a direct relationship to the sea, with a plan that keeps the view alive from front to back and makes the landscape part of daily use.

Open To The Water

The main living areas read as a continuous room line rather than a series of closed chambers. Full-height glass wraps the edge of the house, so the sea, rocks, and trees remain present even when the interior is occupied. That openness is not just visual; it also sets up long sightlines that pull the eye through the house and back out again.

A Dining Table In Motion

At the center, the dining table extends toward the landscape and gives the room a clear social focus. Its long, narrow form points directly to the view, turning meals into an outward-facing experience. Nearby, the kitchen is folded into the same open volume, so preparation, gathering, and movement stay closely linked.

Warm Surfaces, Clear Edges

Inside, light wood, a pale ceiling, and a restrained floor finish set a quiet tone against the dark window frames. Leather lounge chairs, simple tables, and a suspended fireplace introduce warmth without crowding the room. The palette stays calm, letting texture and proportion do most of the work.

Set Against The Shore

Outside, the house reads as a clear line between rock, grass, and water. In daylight, the glazed front reflects the shifting sky; after dark, the interior glows through the perimeter and gives the cabin a steady presence on the site. The result is a compact house that keeps the sea in view from almost every angle.
