The focus of the renovation was the reconfiguration of the social areas, in order to improve the relationship between the different spaces and equate the transition between them. Structural elements such as concrete, wood, glass and white marble were kept apparent, while a wood finish divides the spaces with several sliding doors. Furthermore, the woodwork was done in glossy white lacquer, leaving the spaces wider and clearer to show the original decoration pieces of the residents.

With an eye for cozy design, the renovation was designed to make the space both spacious and comfortable, with the least possible intervention. Throughout the apartment, the eye is drawn to the contrast between colors and textures as a guiding element in the design, uniting all the rooms together with a dark blue corridor. The dining room has a large stone panel with built-in LED lighting, while the kitchen features a decorative tile panel and dark woodwork. The concept of the house was to create an architecture with a brutalist and industrial style, but with ecologically correct materials to make it sustainable and reduce the impact on the environment. With an integration of interior and exterior, this house is perfect for those who want to enjoy the natural beauty of Sao Paulo and at the same time, appreciate modern, contemporary architecture.
Set in Brasília, Brazil, the Couri House is a single-story house designed by ARQBR Arquitetura e Urbanismo in 2019.
Located in a residential condominium, the 713 sq.m plot features a solitary pequi native tree, legally protected and very representative of the Central Brazilian region of the Cerrado. The project conciliates this context with the family’s desire to build a small house with a shaded terrace, whilst obtaining the largest space of green area possible. The strategy adopted was to design the plan in the shape of a ribbon that develops through the plot, adjusting itself to its perimeter and creating voids to create living and leisure patios that promote contact with the gardens and the neighboring green area.
