Dolores Heights Residence, an earthquake cottage located in the heart of San Francisco, California, was recently remodeled and expanded with an ambitious vision of creating an open and harmonious space. The owners sought the help of Jones | Haydu, a renowned architectural firm, to bring their vision to life.
The house, designed in a contemporary style, features a straight axis circulation interacting with the building’s forms as they ascend to the main entrance. The stunning material palette of cedar, standing seam metal, and cementitious panels creates a unique atmosphere that is further highlighted by the magnificent Monterey cypress tree. The crescendo of forms occurs at the front, nodding to quintessential San Francisco vernacular.

Tucked away in Seattle’s Phinney Ridge neighborhood, surrounded by old-growth trees, is the reimagined two-story home of a young family of four. Dubbed Phinney Mini for its compact footprint and idyllic location, the 1,665 square-foot (155 m2) house was designed by Best Practice Architecture to be a functional, modern and exquisitely detailed living space that celebrates the family’s heritage.
The Best Practice team achieved this by removing the interior walls of the main level and introducing two organizing elements, an entry box and an oak box, that house necessary domestic functions in an elegant and bespoke fashion. In addition, they designed a generous family room, a detached work-from-home office and a pocket door leading to a bathroom with a traditional Japanese soaking tub. Thanks to Best Practice’s expertise, Phinney Mini is now a charming and luxurious home that will be cherished for years to come.
Monitor’s Rest, an 18,000 square-foot (1,672 square meter) single-story mountain residence designed by CLB Architects in 2022, stands out from the craggy slopes of Park City, Utah.
Situated within the award-winning development The Colony at White Pine Canyon, this elegant outcropping embraces rugged outdoor lifestyles into its bespoke interior spaces. Constructed as a series of rectilinear volumes, Monitor’s Rest invites occupants to circulation across the steep slope and experience the alpine wilderness and high-end residential amenities.
This serene waterfront retreat is located in the unique landscape of the creek at Towd Point, in Southampton, one of only 28 Federal Ecological Preserves in the US. Designed by the architecture firm TRA Studio, Cottage at Towd Point Road is the only house whose site is at the bend of the Towd Point peninsula, right where the views of the protected creek are at the widest and where a little beach naturally occurred. This minimalist property provides stunning views of the Atlantic and the surrounding nature, perfect for a peaceful getaway for friends and family.
