About Vitra Haus

VitraHaus: A New Dimension in Showcasing Design

Vitra has recently expanded its Home Collection, gathering a diverse range of designs. This prompted the creation of VitraHaus, a showroom that brings these pieces to the public eye, complemented by a shop, a café, and conference rooms.

VitraHaus stands as a physical embodiment of the archetypal house, reflecting familiar forms found globally. The designs, meant for private homes, deserve a setting that mirrors their intended use, not the starkness of halls or museums.

A Fluid Transition Between Spaces

The design of VitraHaus relies on stacking and extruding shapes, blending the exterior with the interior. Visitors experience a fluid journey through spaces, with unexpected transitions and landscape vistas. The surrounding Tüllinger Hills, railway expanses, and Rhine plane inspired a focus on vertical design.

Unlike other Vitra Campus buildings, VitraHaus invites the outside in. It prepares for an influx of visitors, including schools and groups, by integrating benches and niches into the architecture.

Integrating Function and Form

Waiting areas and viewing spots are carved from the building’s form, showcasing the design objects within. These zones are not mere furniture but integral parts of the architectural experience, reflecting Vitra’s dedication to design unity.
