About Villa Boréale
Modern Retreat in the Heart of Charlevoix
Villa Boréale stands as a modern cottage amidst Charlevoix’s lush forests and mountain vistas, overlooking the Saint Lawrence River. Tucked within the boreal forest, the villa nestles on a private, sloping site, harmonizing with the natural vegetation.
Design with Heritage in Mind
The architect, joining the project early, guided a vibrant young couple to a site that brought their vision to life. Drawing inspiration from New France’s historical homes, the design reinterprets traditional architecture into a contemporary cottage. The steep roof and minimal overhang pay homage to these early structures. Eastern cedar cladding provides a natural finish, contrasting with the sleek, matte metalwork. The cladding’s flow across walls and roof clearly marks the main entrance.
In the design phase, the site emerged as a pivotal force. Strategic window placement frames breathtaking views, creating interiors awash with natural light. The design blurs the line between outside and inside, with the base structure ebbing and flowing. The Scandinavian-inspired simplicity captures the project’s soul: the majestic landscape and rich wildlife around it.
