Integrating Nature in the Rasų Quarter Design
Perched above historical ammunition depots, this house forms part of the Rasų Quarter in Pavilniai Regional Park. Traditional houses with archetypal silhouettes harmonize with the environment here. The house’s large showcase windows frame the regional park’s slopes and valleys, bringing stunning landscapes into the interior.
Designing with the Landscape in Mind
The surrounding landscape plays a key role in shaping the house’s interior concept. It aims to merge seamlessly with the environment, creating an unbroken link between exterior and interior. This design approach allows nature to gently assert its presence over the architecture. Inside, the design elements enhance and emphasize the house’s unique proportions, especially on the first floor.
Spanning two stories and 1,033 square feet (96 sq.m), this house caters to a young family of four. It mirrors the efficient space arrangement typical of Japanese homes. The design prioritizes storage space and presents utilitarian solutions through minimalist design and materials. As a result, it often becomes a playful guessing game to determine whether a feature is a door, a closet, or simply a wall finish.
Creative Use of Space and Elements
On the ground floor, you’ll find bedrooms and a bathroom. The first floor dedicates itself to a living room combined with a kitchen. The kitchen, designed as a separate, lower volume, creates a cozy spot for sitting, reading, and children’s activities. This design element resembles the large stoves found in fairy tale forest huts. For safety, and considering the children’s young ages, the design excludes a ladder.
White covers the interior’s outer shell from floor to ceiling, beautifully framing the outside environment. The furniture, made primarily from CLT pine panels, underscores the home’s natural continuity. The concrete structures, painted white, maintain their texture, adding a touch of tactility to the overall design.
