About Weekend House

A Hidden Gem in the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy

Nestled in the southern reaches of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy, this property stands unique. A vast mountain panorama surrounds it, marred by only a few scattered homesteads. Bordered by a road at its peak, the land cascades down to a shaded gully, where a brook meanders through.

Challenges and Triumphs in Design

Tapping into the raw mountain vibe took center stage in the design. However, navigating the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area Administration’s strict regulations wasn’t a walk in the park. These rules often stymied innovative and creative endeavors.

Material Choices: Concrete and Larch Wood

The initial inspirations leaned not towards space, but material. The aim? Finding elements that echo the locale and set the design tone. Enter concrete and larch wood. But how can one harmonize these two materials, each starkly contrasting the other?

Marrying Heaviness with Lightness

Concrete captures heaviness perfectly. It forms a solid platform, somewhat embedded in the earth, exuding an almost cave-like ambiance. Within, it shelters larch-crafted bedroom cabins and service spaces.

In contrast, two slender larch beams dominate the upper space. Intersecting, they frame the vast mountain vistas, resting upon this rock foundation.

Blending with the Beskydy Landscape

The surrounding beauty flows unbroken. In time, the concrete will adopt a mossy grey hue. Similarly, the larch wood will embrace a greyish-silver patina. And the sandstone access path? It will seamlessly melt into the meadow’s grassy embrace.
