About Contemporary Apartment

Architect Marcelo Minuscoli’s project for this Porto Alegre, Brazil apartment focused on highlighting the American-style integrated kitchen with a large island. The kitchen was a natural centerpiece and priority for the owners, who also requested a balance between classic and contemporary styles. Minuscoli masterfully interwove boldness and neutrality, resulting in a unique personality with customized details throughout the space.

High-Quality Materials and Bespoke Furniture

The apartment features high-quality materials such as large-format ceramic coverings and natural stone worktops, including “Bianco Superiore” quartzite. The bespoke furniture, made of natural wood with parts in off white lacquer in the social areas, was designed and detailed by Minuscoli himself. Other furniture is covered with melamine in different finishes, textures, and compositions.

Unique Design Details in Every Room

The apartment’s dining chandelier was carefully chosen to create a strong presence in the composition of the environment, given the neutrality of the furniture. During the day, natural light can be controlled through the double fabric curtain system. In the couple’s suite, the mix of wood veneer with gray and caramel leather creates a jovial yet elegant space. In the daughter’s bedroom, light tones with white furniture allow the decorative wallpaper and a velvet headboard to stand out. The cabinet features total boldness with slats that come out of the bench and gain the ceiling, where the deep gray of the walls brings warmth.

Technology and Comfort in a Small Space

This project features technology and comfort, making up for the lack of space that is common in current urban apartments. The apartment’s design allows natural light to enter during the day, while the double fabric curtain system allows for control over the light.

Overall, Minuscoli’s project achieved a beautiful balance between classic and contemporary styles while emphasizing the importance of the American-style integrated kitchen with a large island. The use of high-quality materials and bespoke furniture, along with unique design details in every room, truly make this apartment a standout.
