At first glance, Winter Creek beautifully mirrors the vast farm it calls home. SOS Architects, drawing from modernist principles, and in tandem with Studio Tom’s muted interiors, skillfully crafted a clean, modern residence. Instead of overshadowing its surroundings, it seamlessly harmonizes with them.
A Prime Location in Trentham
Nestled in Trentham and merely 90 minutes from Melbourne, Winter Creek stands as a modern, one-story marvel. Historically rich in potato cultivation, the owners ambitiously transformed this working farm into a thriving truffle and South Devon cattle stud farm. Given its unique setting, SOS Architects thoughtfully placed the house to resonate and blend with the land.
Architectural Brilliance and Interior Splendor
Diving into the design, Winter Creek boasts two distinctive features: an expansive floating roof connecting to the landscape, and a secluded “flat box” area providing sanctuary to the bedrooms and bathrooms. Moreover, its transparent design offers breathtaking landscape views from countless vantage points. Collaboratively, Studio Tom and SOS Architects melded their expertise, ensuring the home’s interior echoes the surrounding land’s misty, grey, wintery moods. Dominated by charcoal, neutral, and grey tones, the minimalist yet elegant furnishings ensure the interior effortlessly complements the exterior.
Laminex’s Role in the Seamless Aesthetic
Further enhancing Winter Creek’s allure, the AbsoluteMatte range from Laminex plays a pivotal role. Widely used for joinery, wall panels, and doors, its matte finish intriguingly captures and plays with the light.
