3-Juxta House By Kee Yen Grants Special Relationship with the Outdoors
Kee Yen Architect designed the 3-Juxta House in Malaysia, creating a refined two-level structure for a multi-generational family. Eschewing extravagance, the volumes are interconnected, accommodating diverse needs in tropical climate conditions. The focal point is a central courtyard and pool, enhancing the passive design strategy to ensure natural ventilation.
Three volumes define the 3-Juxta House
The volumes are thoughtfully interconnected to meet the diverse needs of each household generation, fostering a sense of unity and cohesion within the space.
Crafted materials are juxtaposed to evoke certain spatial effects, enhancing the overall aesthetic while adhering to passive design strategies tailored for tropical living.
“Our focus remains unwavering on the art of architectural juxtapositioning, tailored to accommodate the diverse needs of the occupants. Eschewing extravagance for practical elegance, our design embodies the essence of tropical living.”
Architectural compositions are defined by volumetric interplay, ensuring every corner of the space is tailored to meet the unique needs of each family member.
Courtyard at the centre divides and cools the spaces
Designed for tropical living, the volumes are also enveloped by expansive openings that bathe the spaces in abundant natural light, aligning with the sun’s path to optimise illumination while minimising heat gain.
A “Say Hi” box allows for engaging with the street and forms a dynamic front facade. This interface is adorned with fluted concrete blocks and stainless-steel inlays that create a lively exterior.
The volumes and void in the centre also allow for visual connection between the various family sub-units.
The thoughtful juxtaposition of concrete, Nyatoh timber strips and Balau timber screens complements the overall architectural vision.
